But wait, I hear you asking, what about the boiled battery?
Well, I talked to my mechanic, who could not fot me in. Like our own HisStigness, he encouraged me to purchase an expensive AGM battery. Based on my description, he did not believe there qas much to be worried about. He says alternator problem is unlikely the culprit. He thinks I drive it too much in hot weather and I need a battery more capable in the heat.
So I bought one and installed it. He said he does not believe my car will burn like an angry Ferrari, and suggested I drive it for a couple of days with the new battery and look for symptoms. He thinks I worry too much. Toyotas are solid, and electical problems are rare, he tells me. He says the fires are always the modded out ones. It it was a Fiat, he says, I’d already be dead. I spend a lot of money there for this kind of mechanic humor.

I’m not sure how hard it is to remove that parking brake handle, but if it’s easily removable, then have you considered getting a custom wooden one to go along with your snazzy Nardi wheel and knob?

I may have been watching too many AMMO NYC videos lately. All I can envision is a bespoken restoration of that shift knob and 5 day interior detailing marathon.

AGMs are excellent - they are more up front, but last forever, and you never have to worry about spills. I can’t say enough good about them.

Exactly what I have in the Z, they fire up harder, which is good with the triple carbs. I have one on my diesel Merc too because it cranks so much harder in the winter, much better for a diesel. I do have a charger for them so I can do an overnight recharge if I need to, you shouldn’t jump them, but you might have to. If you ever do jump it you should do an overnight recharge with the correct charger as soon as possible, you can damage them and they will just go dead. My friend an electrician had that happen in his Midget and he learned his lesson. He said the charging they get in a car is not correct for restoring the battery, since you have a carport/garage it probably isn’t a bad idea to do an overnight computer charge to touch it up from time to time. I killed one since I don’t drive the Merc a lot, I guess it was either faulty or it dropped in charge and and unhooked it and didn’t use it for awhile and it was too far gone, maybe a proper charge cycle at the time would have saved it.
